This is the temple of Lord Shiva. One of the names of Lord Shiva is Pataleshwar.This temple is a great heritage of Pune city.It's a great worht seeing temple, which has been carved out of a single rock.

The temple remians open daily from 8.00 A.M to 5.30 P.M

The temple is situated in the heart of the city on the Jangli Maharaj (J.M)road near Shivaji Nagar.The entrance of the temple is really worth seeing, as it's an exotic arrangement of circular stones and provides a great sense of geometry of the architects.

History of Temple:
The literal meaning of the word Pataleshwar is God of the Underworld. Entirely carved out in the hard rock, Pataleshwar really looks like a different world altogether. This beautiful piece of work was carved out in the Rashtrakuta period in the 8th century.

Speciality of Temple:
The entire temple has been built using a single rock which includes the shrine of Lord Shiva, Nandi bull and gigantic pillars.The sculptures include beautiful statues of Sita, Rama, Laxman and a host of other Hindu Gods and Goddesses located in the cube-shaped room at the heart of the temple.
